A Kenyan Social Enterprise Built on Recycling
Thrive Grassroots Initiative is a Kenyan social enterprise dedicated to transforming plastic and glass waste into industrial-grade materials. Founded with the conviction that waste management and community development are interconnected challenges requiring interconnected solutions, we have built an integrated model that creates value at every stage of the recycling chain.
Operating across Kiambu, Nairobi, Murang'a, Nyeri, Embu, and Mombasa counties, we collect and process over 50 tonnes of plastic and 50 tonnes of glass monthly. Our operations employ community-based collectors, provide income to waste aggregators, and supply manufacturers with reliable recycled feedstock - all while directing a portion of revenue into community programs. We are not a charity. We are a business that proves recycling can be both commercially viable and socially transformative in Kenya.
Our Mission
To build a sustainable, scalable recycling ecosystem in Kenya that transforms plastic and glass waste into valuable industrial materials while creating meaningful employment, funding community health and education programs, and demonstrating that grassroots-level environmental action can drive systemic social change across East Africa.
Our Vision
A Kenya where no plastic or glass waste reaches landfills, where recycling creates prosperity in every community, and where grassroots initiatives lead the way in demonstrating that environmental sustainability and economic development are inseparable. We envision expanding our model to every county in Kenya and inspiring similar initiatives across East Africa.

Free Medical Camp - Murang'a
In partnership with local healthcare providers, Thrive funded and organized a free medical camp in Murang'a County that served over 800 community members. Services included general health screenings, dental care, eye examinations, and distribution of essential medicines to underserved populations.
School Recycling Program - Nairobi
Our school recycling program in Nairobi has engaged 15 primary and secondary schools, teaching students about waste segregation and environmental stewardship. Participating schools receive collection bins and educational materials, while collected plastics generate funds that are reinvested back into school infrastructure.
